Dawn Lee Wakefield holds four degrees from Texas A&M University, in Chemical
Engineering, Physical Chemistry, and Educational Administration. She founded
West Communications in 1988, while working as an engineer and public
relations assignment specialist for a Houston petrochemical company. She
returned to Bryan-College Station, Texas and opened her communications
business in 1993. A former educator, Wakefield has created and delivered
several custom training programs, teaching chemistry and engineering
fundamentals to hundreds of process technicians in Gulf Coast petrochemical
plants. As a freelance writer, she's published numerous articles in
newspapers, magazines, and local, regional and selected national
publications, on dynamic people and interesting events.
In continuous copy editing assignments for academic institutions and journal
publishers, she uses many style manuals for editing [Chicago, APA, AMA, CBE,
ACS] and the AP Stylebook for writing. Editing specialties include chemistry,
biology, COPD, asthma and allergy/immunology subjects, secondary education,
polymer and plastics engineering, materials science, aging and family, and
entertainment communications. A former professional fundraiser, Wakefield
has won awards for her fund-raising campaign writing and event
organizational skills. As an educator with a strong sense of humor, she's
coached individuals and inspired nonprofit group members to enhance their
public speaking skills and improve their comfort in giving presentations.
